Card declined mid-purchase and the account page shows a restriction with no detail

Specific question, not looking for a general discussion.

Coinbase Card declined mid-purchase yesterday. The exchange account itself is normal — trading works, transfers work, the balance is visible and movable. Only the card is affected, and the account page shows a restriction notice with no detail beyond the word restricted.

Has anyone seen the card restricted independently of the account, and if so did it come back without a support escalation? A client is in this position and the answer changes whether we wait or move.

Yes, it happens, and the card-only restriction is generally the better one to be in — your funds are not the thing under review, the spending permission is.

In the cases I have seen it came back in under two weeks without escalation, but the trigger was always something on the card side: a run of declines, a merchant category the programme does not like, or an address change. Since the card converts non-USDC spend at 2.49% and settles per authorisation, the programme sees every single attempt including the ones that failed.

If you cannot wait two weeks, move. That is the whole decision and nobody here can shorten the queue for you.
