Eighty a month for BPW — what am I actually buying that the Romanian box doesn't sell?

Genuine question, not a dig. The Seychelles-registered operator starts at eighty dollars a month. The Iceland/Finland/Romania one starts at five euro fifty. Both say anonymous signup, both say DMCA ignored, both take Bitcoin.

I have read both sets of marketing and I cannot find the eighty dollars. Datacentres in six countries is not a feature I use; I use one. What is the concrete thing the expensive one does that the cheap one does not?

Somebody here is paying it. Tell me what you get.

I've had boxes at both. The honest answer is that you're mostly buying the ability to be a nuisance customer.

At five fifty a month you are one of thousands and your account is worth nothing to them. When something ambiguous happens, the cheapest resolution is to suspend you and refund the month. At eighty a month you're a customer whose loss they'd notice, and the same ambiguous complaint gets a human deciding rather than a policy firing.

That's it. It isn't better hardware and it isn't a better jurisdiction — Seychelles registration is a company address, and the box is in the Netherlands or Moldova like everyone else's. You're buying enough revenue per customer that somebody thinks before pulling the plug.

Depends what you're running whether that's worth seventy-five dollars. For a redirector, no. For the one box the whole operation routes through, it's cheap.

This is the best explanation of expensive hosting i read on this board.

Partly right, and it leaves out the payment rails, which for that operator are the actual differentiator and the actual problem.

Bitcoin plus two legacy processors most of this board has never used. That is not a privacy feature. It is a narrow set of rails, and a narrow set of rails is a correlation surface — the number of people paying a Seychelles host through those particular processors is small.

Cheap and crowded has an underrated property: you are indistinguishable from thousands of people doing nothing interesting.

That cuts directly against the post above it. You can't both be right about which is safer.

We can, because we're answering different questions. He's talking about who can find you. I'm talking about who pulls your box on a Tuesday.

Most people here get hurt by the Tuesday problem and worry about the other one.

Most people here have never had the other one happen, which is not the same as it not being the one that ends you.
