gnosis pay blocked the card but the safe still holds my money — is that a freeze or not

Card stopped authorising on Monday. Every tap comes back declined, in-app it says the account is under review, no timeline.

Here is the part I want someone to explain. The safe still holds the usdc. I can see it, I can move it on chain right now, nothing about the wallet is locked. What is locked is the spend module — the thing that lets the card pull from the safe at authorisation.

So is that a freeze or isn't it. My funds are not held. My ability to spend them through this rail is. Anyone been through the review and come out the other side?

Did they email you, or did you find out standing at a terminal?

Terminal. Twice, in front of people, before I checked the app. There was no email and there still isn't one.

Three days now. Support replied once to say the review is with a third party and they cannot give a date.

That is the Sumsub re-verification loop. They run it periodically, not just at onboarding, and when it triggers the card issuer suspends authorisations until it clears. Nobody tells you it started.

Mine took nine days last year. Check the app for a document request buried under the account section — mine never appeared in email either, and the clock does not start until you upload.

Worth knowing that settlement is Gnosis Chain only, so there is no second rail to fall back on while you wait.

You are conflating custody of the asset with control of the rail. He has the first and not the second. Those are different problems and only one of them is solved by moving tokens.

Self-custodial means they cannot take it. It has never meant they cannot stop you spending it through their card. Every product in this category sells the first sentence and lets you assume the second.

If your threat model is confiscation, this is fine. If your threat model is needing to pay for something on a Tuesday, it is not.

Three weeks. Nothing uploaded because nothing was ever requested, and support has stopped replying entirely.

Moved the balance to a different card and I am leaving the safe empty. Not calling it a scam, calling it a rail I cannot plan around.
