holyheld card dead mid-week and the EUR balance is just sitting there

My Holyheld card stopped authorising on Tuesday afternoon, mid-week, with no warning and no change in how I was using it. Two small contactless payments in the morning went through; the third was declined and everything since has been declined.

The EUR balance is still shown in the app, unchanged. I can see it; I cannot spend it, and there is no withdraw path back out that I can find. Support acknowledged the ticket and said nothing further.

Has anyone here had the account restored, and if so how long did it take?

Checked; nothing in spam and nothing in the app inbox either. It is a reasonable guess but not this time.

It is almost always a re-verification hold rather than an outage. Holyheld is EEA-only and settles everything into EUR, which means they carry the same obligations as any European e-money outfit — periodic checks, and the card goes dark while one runs.

Two things worth doing. Open the ticket a second time from a different angle, asking specifically whether an AML review is open on the account, because the generic queue will not tell you that unprompted. And do not expect the cashback to move while you wait — it sits in a thirty-day pending window anyway, so it will look stalled either way.

Mine cleared in six days with no explanation offered.

Happen to me in march also. I send bank statement, two days later is fine. Anyway for them this is normal, they not consider it freeze.

Every 'crypto in, EUR out' product is a bank with a nicer onboarding screen.

Resolved, and hana_v was right about the second ticket. Asking directly whether an AML review was open produced an actual human reply within a day, and a document request I had never been sent.

Nine days end to end. The balance was untouched throughout and the cashback resumed its pending window as if nothing had happened. I would still rather not have discovered the process this way, but I would not call it a seizure; it was a queue nobody told me I was in.
