Everyone talks about private offers like they just appear. How does that actually happen

I have doubt about something that everybody here say like is obvious.

People write "i run a private offer" or "they gave me a private" and nobody ever explain how this happen. Actually i ask my manager one time direct and he say "we will see" which mean no.

I am not small. Maybe 600 to 900 conversions a month on two offers, stable since June, i never had a chargeback problem and my leads always pass. In LATAM which is maybe the problem, i do not know.

So my question is what is the actual trigger. Is volume? Is a number? Is who you know? Somebody must remember the first time it happen to them.

it happens when you're the problem. when your volume on a public offer breaks their cap and the advertiser complains. not before

grindstone is closer to right than the polite version anyone will give you, but I'd put it differently and less bleakly.

  1. In every case the manager came to me, not the other way round, and in every case it was within a fortnight of me doing something that made his week harder. Twice that was blowing through a daily cap two days running. Once it was asking to be moved off an offer because the payout no longer worked, which apparently caused a conversation upstairs.

  2. None of them were about total volume. They were about concentration. Nine hundred a month spread over two offers is a good affiliate. Nine hundred a month where six hundred of it lands on one advertiser between Tuesday and Thursday is a supply problem the advertiser is now aware of, and private offers exist to solve supply problems.

Depends what you're running, but the framing in Marta_K's last paragraph is the one that gets managers moving and it's worth saying why.

A manager has no authority to give you a better payout. He has authority to escalate. Every request you make that he can answer himself, he answers himself, and the answer is no. Every request that requires him to ask someone else is one he either escalates or looks bad for sitting on.

"Can I have a private offer" is answerable in-seat. "The advertiser is capped Tuesday to Thursday and I have supply for it, do they want it" is not. Same ask, different routing.

Mine came out of a conference, which is the answer nobody wants because it costs money and a weekend.

Sat at a table with a guy for forty minutes in 2019 - didn't pitch him anything, we mostly complained about a mutual acquaintance - and he sent me an offer three weeks later that never appeared in any dashboard. Ran it for two years.

I've had exactly one private come from doing good work in a portal and about five from being in a room. Make of that what you like. Do you ever go to any of these things?

Never. Actually i look at the price of one in Sao Paulo last year and the ticket alone was more than my worst month.

But i take the point. Is the same as everything, the room is the product.

"Mostly they're an admin action that takes four minutes" should be pinned somewhere. Half the mystique on this board is people describing a checkbox.
