Five year. In five year the company is a different thing anyway.
Anyway good post. Nobody write this down before.
Day 37. The subject access request came back yesterday.
It confirms that a termination record exists, gives a date, and gives a reason code. The code corresponds to excessive chargebacks. My chargeback ratio in the final quarter was 0.61%; their own published threshold is 1.0%.
So it is category one on hexforge's list. That is the best news I have had since November and I want to be careful not to over-read it — a wrong reason code does not automatically mean removal, it means I now have something specific to be right about in writing.
0.61 against a 1.0 threshold. Do you have their statement showing the 0.61, or is that your calculation?
Their monthly merchant statements, which print the ratio as a figure. It is their number, not mine; that is rather the point of using it.
Reading this one from the start and I feel a bit sick, honestly. I'm about to apply for my first proper merchant account and I had no idea any of this existed — I assumed a decline was just a decline and you tried somebody else.
Sorry for the low-value post. Mostly I wanted to say thank you for writing it down with the dates, because the version of this that exists everywhere else is someone saying they blacklisted me with no detail at all.
Day 72. Formal correction request sent on the 2nd with the statements attached. Acknowledged on the 4th. Nothing since.
I have chased twice. The second chase produced a line saying the matter is with the relevant team. I record that mostly so future readers know that a strong factual case does not produce a fast response.
Since it's been quiet — did you get the self-hosted checkout up in the end?
Asking partly because the thread has been about the listing for three months and the thing that actually pays your rent is the other half.
I did, in February, and I owe the thread an update on it.
Own box, own wallet. It took about a weekend as advertised, plus a second weekend I had not budgeted for because I misconfigured the store currency and spent four hours convinced payments were being lost. They were not; they were in the wrong ledger.
Card share is gone, obviously. Crypto share of orders is at 34% against the 20% it was when cards were available, so the floor argument was directionally right and the forty per cent estimate was optimistic. Revenue is down about a third year on year. That is survivable and it is not fine.
Did the removal ever come through? A client is weighing whether the correction route is worth the legal spend.
No, and I am going to stop pretending an update is imminent.
Day 168. The correction request has been outstanding since March, acknowledged twice, never answered. The data protection complaint went in on the 2nd of June and has a reference number and an estimated response time measured in months.
On the practical question you asked: the legal spend so far is under four hundred, because everything has been letters I wrote myself using the data protection route rather than a solicitor. On that basis it is obviously worth doing. If your client is being quoted for representation, I would want to know what the representation buys, because nothing about this has been adversarial. It has only been slow.
The honest summary after five and a half months: I have proved the record is wrong, I have proved they know it is wrong, and I am still on it. Nobody in this thread told me it would go faster than this and I did not believe them.
a third of your revenue, six months of letters, and you're still asking an acquirer for permission. the rail you built in february is the business now. the other thing is a hobby you're grieving.
