OrangeWebsite site looks abandoned — is anyone still registering there?

Genuine question rather than a dig. Is anyone actually still registering names at OrangeWebsite, or has the whole Iceland free-speech crowd quietly consolidated onto two shops?

I have four names there from 2018 and the renewal notice arrived last week looking exactly like the one from 2018, which on the one hand is reassuring and on the other hand is the sort of thing you notice about a business that has stopped investing. The site has not changed in years. Neither has the price, to be fair.

I am not going to move them on aesthetics. I would move them if the shop is coasting. So: recent orders, recent renewals, recent tickets — anyone?

Still ordering there and I would not read the dated site as a signal either way. Half the good registrars in this niche look like 2011 because the money goes into being boring rather than into a redesign.

Registered two names in January. Fifteen euros-ish for a .com, Bitcoin, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash at checkout, WHOIS privacy applied by default rather than as a paid upsell, and no name verification at any point. Icelandic company, so the same legal posture people buy 1984 for, just an older brand with less of a following on this board.

Depends what you're running, but for names you intend to keep quietly for years it is fine and always has been. It is not a bulletproof registrar and it does not pretend to be one, which is a point in its favour.

I renew two name there in January also. No problem, interface is old but works.

Anyway what I notice, invoice come by mail two week before and price is exactly what it say. Some registrar move renewal price after first year, this one not do that to me in four year.

The old interface is not the risk. Who is the registrant of record on yours?

You are. Privacy proxy in the public WHOIS, you on the account. Not the Njalla model where the shop owns the name.

That is the answer I wanted, and the registrant point is the one I should have asked first rather than fourth.

Leaving them. Renewed all four for two years on the grounds that a registrar which has looked identical since 2018 and still costs what it cost in 2018 is a registrar that is not about to surprise me. In 2014 that sentence would have been an insult.
