sideshift variable quotes drifting well off the preview since last week

I have run the same USDT to XMR shift on variable mode roughly twice a week for about a year, and the delivered amount has always landed within a hair of the preview.

The last four have come in noticeably under. Call it half a point to just over one, consistently low, never high. Nothing changed my side — same pair, same sizes, same call.

Is anyone else seeing variable mode drift since the start of the month, or has something moved in how they quote?

IME variable mode was never a quote, it's an estimate that settles at execution. The preview is what the book looked like when you asked, not a commitment. If your sizes crept up at all you're eating more of the book than you were.

Before blaming them, log both ends:

GET /v2/quote -> quoteId, rate, ts
GET /v2/shifts/{id}  -> settleAmount, ts

Twenty shifts, then plot the gap against the delay between quote and send. If the drift correlates with your delay, it's you. If it doesn't, it's them. Right now you have four data points and a feeling.

xmr liquidity is thinner than it was and that isn't sideshift's doing. stablecoin pairs are still tight, check one of those against the preview and you'll see the difference isn't in their quoting

Switched to fixed mode for the last two and both landed on the number, so I have a workaround at least. It doesn't tell me why variable moved, and you're right that four shifts is not evidence of anything. I'll run the twenty.

Worth knowing they do apply stricter checks on very large flows despite there being no account. If your sizes have been creeping, that is the other thing that changes behaviour, and nothing on the page will tell you it happened.

Post the twenty when you have them. Otherwise this thread is one person's four transactions and three people agreeing with the vibe.

the fixed mode tip is worth the thread on its own, I didn't know both modes were exposed on the same call!
