Six weeks of clean spend and the billing threshold has not moved once

Had this exact thing in 2022 and it fixed itself in about ten days, which is why six weeks is bothering me now.

Account opened in April. Threshold is 50. Every charge clears first time, no declines, no chargebacks, same card throughout. I'm spending about 400 a day, which means it bills me eight times a day, which means my card processor is now looking at me like I'm running a scheme.

Everyone says it goes up on its own. Mine hasn't. Six weeks, roughly 16,000 through it, still 50.

Has anyone actually got one raised - by asking, by waiting, by anything - or is the answer that some accounts just never get promoted?

eight charges a day is why. the counter that matters isn't spend, it's billing cycles completed clean, and yours look like a stuck loop

Caveat: I run maybe eight accounts across two platforms and my experience is that thresholds are the least documented and most superstition-ridden part of this whole business.

What I have actually seen work, in order of how often:

  1. Time with the same payment method and nothing else changing. Not spend. I have had an account at 250/day sit on a low threshold for two months and jump the week after I stopped touching anything.

  2. Prepayment, where the platform supports it. Putting a lump on the account manually sometimes reclassifies it in a way that automatic billing never does.

  3. Asking, occasionally, on the platforms that have humans. Never on the ones that don't.

What I have never seen work is spending more. The mental model most people have is that you earn a higher threshold with volume, and I don't think that's what's being measured at all. I think it's a risk score and volume is neutral to it or slightly negative.

The eight-charges-a-day thing grindstone raises is real and it has a second cost: your card issuer starts flagging the merchant, and then you get a decline, and a decline resets whatever clock you were on.

Second the prepayment route where it exists. I moved two accounts onto manual funding last year specifically to get off the threshold treadmill.

What happened, and I only have the two so it's thin: both were on 50, both had been for over a month. After three manual top-ups of 2,000 each, one moved to 750 within a fortnight and the other never moved at all but no longer mattered because I wasn't being billed automatically.

That second outcome is the underrated one. The threshold is only a problem because of what the charge frequency does to your card. Remove the automatic billing and the threshold becomes a number you don't look at.

Same card six weeks is good but which card. Prepaid or virtual will keep you at 50 forever on some platform, i see this many times.

Prepay route is the one. It sidesteps the question rather than answering it.

It's a virtual one off a real account, not a prepaid. Though I take the point that the BIN may not tell them that. Never occurred to me that the card type itself might be the ceiling.
