Virtualine has been out of stock in the region I need since January — who else is that cheap?

Been putting low-value client boxes on Virtualine for about two years — four euro, takes Monero, has never asked anyone for anything, and honestly the best price-per-core in the no-KYC tier.

Since early January the location I actually need has been out of stock. Not low stock. Out. I've checked most days. Support says more capacity is coming and has been saying that since the 14th.

Depends what you're running, obviously, but for me these are throwaway boxes where the requirement is cheap, crypto, and nobody asks. Where's everyone going while this sorts itself out, or has it already sorted itself and I'm looking at the wrong page?

For throwaway boxes at that price point I've been on ExtraVM for about a year and it does the job. Three and a half dollars gets you a small box, they take fifty-odd coins including Monero, and paying in crypto explicitly waives the ID and address checks — that's their stated policy, not a workaround somebody found.

Two caveats and they matter for your use case specifically.

It's a normal commercial host with a normal abuse desk. It is not bulletproof and doesn't claim to be — a complaint lands and you'll hear about it with a deadline attached. Fine for client boxes that aren't attracting complaints, wrong for anything that is.

And stock in the popular regions moves. FWIW I've had to take a second-choice location twice this year. You're trading one out-of-stock problem for a smaller version of the same problem, not escaping it.

IME the reason the cheap no-KYC tier is always out of stock is that it's always the same three racks and every forum recommends them in the same week.

11 thanks

Last sentence is the real answer and it applies to this thread too. We're about to do it again.

This is the oldest pattern in hosting and it predates all of us. A cheap provider gets recommended, capacity fills, quality drops or stock runs out, forum moves on, provider either grows up or dies.

In 2014 it was a shared host everyone used for PBNs. Same arc, about fourteen months from nobody's heard of them, to nobody can get an account, to they got bought.

The useful move isn't finding the next cheap one. It's deciding whether four euro versus nine euro actually matters at the number of boxes you run, because for most people here it's a difference of about sixty euro a year and they've already spent three hours in this thread.

Fifty-odd boxes, so it's rather more than sixty a year for me. But you're right that I've never once done that arithmetic before starting one of these threads.

Stock come back in my region on the 7th. Two size only, and gone again in two day. So is not fixed, is drip.

Moved eleven boxes and left the rest waiting. Stock in my location still hasn't returned as of today.

Not a complaint about them — four euro with no questions was always going to be oversubscribed. It's just no longer something I can plan around, which for client work is the thing that matters.
