I have had the Wirex card since it was one of about three things you could get, and I have said in a dozen threads that the mature product is the one that does not do surprising things to you. Posting this partly because I now have to eat that.

Email on Tuesday: account closing, two months' notice, no reason given, no appeal address. Card still works today. Balance still shows. Withdrawal is greyed out.

The part that actually stings is the WXT. I went up to the higher tier years ago and there is a lock on it, and I cannot find anything in the notice about what happens to locked tokens when they close the account underneath them.

Anyone been through a notice closure here rather than a freeze? Does the balance come out at the end of the notice period or is the notice period just where they put you while they decide?

Grindstone is right and it matters more than it sounds.

A notice closure is the platform ending a relationship under its own terms. There is a defined end date, and on that date they owe you the balance — the greyed-out withdrawal is almost always a process step rather than a hold, and it usually opens in the last stretch of the notice. Every case I have visibility on, four of them, paid out inside the notice window or within a fortnight after.

A freeze has no end date and no obligation attached to it. That is the one to be frightened of and it is not what you have.

The locked tokens are a separate contract to the balance and I have nothing useful on those. I would ask about them specifically and in writing, because the answer you get will be different depending on whether you ask about your account or about the lock.

Four cases that paid out is four cases where the incentive happened to point that way. It does not establish an obligation and I would not tell him it does.

What the notice actually buys them is time and a paper trail: at the end of it they can say the relationship was wound down in an orderly fashion, whatever came out at the other end. If a lock sits between him and a token balance, the notice period is precisely long enough for the lock to become someone else's problem.

Assume the balance comes back. Assume the locked tokens do not. Be pleasantly surprised.

Four for four is not proof and I said so. It is also four more data points than the alternative reading has.

I am not offering a competing prediction. I am objecting to a prediction being offered at all.

One practical thing while the argument runs: get everything out of the higher tier that you can get out of it now, not at the end.

The Elite lock runs a hundred and eighty days from when you set it, and the monthly fee keeps being charged against an account that is closing. If the lock expires inside your notice window you want to be watching the day it does, because that is your one clean opportunity.

Also download your statements this week. Access goes at closure and people always assume they have until the last day.

Statements downloaded, all of it, going back to the start. Good call and I would not have thought of it until the week it was too late.

For the record and for whoever searches this in a year.

Notice ran out on the 7th. The fiat balance released on the 9th, in full, no deductions, so Metrics was right about that part.

The locked WXT is still locked and the account it is locked in no longer exists as far as the app is concerned. Two messages, no reply. So nullroute was right about that part.

Both of them were right about different halves and neither would have been able to tell me which half in May, which is I think the honest summary of everything on this board.
