Ordered offshore tier in November. Specifically offshore tier, not standard, because everybody on this board say the standard one forward everything and only offshore one not.

January 9 a complaint land. January 12 i get email from the host with the complaint attached and seven day deadline.

So either i buy wrong plan or the plan is not what people say. I check invoice three time. Is offshore plan.

Anyway i am moving. But first i want to understand what happen, because if i not understand it i just buy the same mistake somewhere else. Ticket open since the 12th, no answer.

8 thanks

What was the complaint? Category matters more than the plan — most ignore policies carve out specific content types and people never read the carve-outs.

Brand protection. Counterfeit claim on a redirector. Is not on any exclusion list i can find.

Depends what you're running, but I've seen this exact thing three times and it's usually one of two things.

One: the box is on the offshore plan but the IP isn't on the offshore range. Some of these hosts segment by network rather than by product, and a provisioning error puts you on standard IP space with an offshore invoice. Ask them specifically which range your IP sits in — not which plan you bought.

Two: a counterfeit claim isn't a copyright complaint. Trademark and counterfeit notices go through a different process at most Dutch facilities because the upstream carrier treats them differently, and a we-ignore-DMCA policy is literally about DMCA. It's a US copyright statute. It has nothing to do with a European trademark claim, and half the people buying these plans don't know that.

My money is on the second one.

That distinction belongs on the front page of every one of these hosts. It's on none.

Seven days is a courtesy. Read it as the host telling you it will act on day eight, and plan for day eight rather than arguing until day seven.

You are right. I ask about IP range, they answer today — is offshore range, correct. Then i ask about trademark and they say trademark notice is handled separately from copyright, always was.

Is in terms. Is one sentence in section nine. Nobody read section nine.

Section nine is where they all keep it, and has been since about 2015, when the counterfeit firms worked out that DMCA-ignore hosts would honour a trademark notice and started sending trademark notices for everything.

so dmca ignore doesnt mean ignore

It means ignore DMCA. That's the whole sentence and people read four extra words into it.

Update. Redirector moved to Seychelles box on the 28th. Complaint went to the new host on the 2nd, four days later. They do nothing, no email, i find out because i check the abuse mailbox myself.

So far so good. But is four days, so they know where i went very fast.

Four days is the interesting number in this thread and nobody is looking at it.

That is not a complainant re-scanning the internet. That is a complainant watching the DNS record and re-filing the moment the A record changed. You are not being complained about; you are being monitored, and the complaint is an automated consequence.

Which means the host choice is a second-order question. Whatever you move to, they will find in under a week, and the only variable you actually control is whether the thing they find is worth a second notice. Change the resource, not the rack.

This is right, and it explains something in my own log from last year that I recorded and never explained: every second notice for the same resource arrived faster than the first, at every provider. I read that as escalation. It is surveillance.

Did you check whether the new IP was in the complaint, or just the hostname?

New IP is in the complaint. Hostname also. So they resolve it fresh.
