Six weeks. Seychelles box: eleven complaints, zero action, zero email. Host is doing exactly nothing, like people say.

But i change the redirector structure like nullroute say. Now is not one hostname, is rotation. Complaint still come but each one is about a hostname that is already dead.

Cost me two weekend to build. Was worth it.

Rotation buys you time and it also raises your profile with the complainant, because a rotating target is a target somebody escalates internally. Fine at your volume. Not fine at ten times it.

Six weeks in, worth writing down the operational bit for whoever finds this later, because the rotation advice gets given a lot and the failure mode never does.

A rotating hostname setup breaks in a specific way: the rotation gets ahead of your own monitoring. You retire a name, something still points at it, and you find out three weeks later that a chunk of traffic has been going nowhere. IME everyone who builds one of these builds the rotation first and the reconciliation second, usually after losing a month of traffic.

Whatever you built, put a check in it that fails loudly when a live source still points at a retired name. Not a dashboard. Something that wakes you up. FWIW the 3am version of this problem is that the rotation keeps working perfectly and the money quietly stops.

Thanks for keeping this updated — the section nine thing is going to save me at some point. I've already gone and read section nine on my own host and it's there too, almost word for word.

Closing it. Six month.

What i learn, short:

  • Offshore plan was correct plan. Problem was trademark notice is not DMCA notice, and this is in section nine of every host, not only mine.
  • Host that forward is not host that act. Mine forwarded and never did anything, and i moved anyway which maybe was mistake.
  • Complainant find the new IP in four days, every time. Host choice matter less than i thought.
  • Rotation work but you must build the alarm before the rotation, not after. I build it after and lose maybe nine day of traffic on one name.

Cost of six month: two migration, four weekend, and about eighty euro extra in overlapping invoice.

Anyway. Is stable now. Ask me in December if is still stable.

It won't be, and that's not pessimism, it's the job. Every setup I've run has a shelf life of about eighteen months before the other side changes something and you rebuild.

Good log though. Better than the ones people write from memory afterwards.
