Two threads on this board answer this the opposite way, so I'm asking again

Two threads on this board give opposite answers and both are from people I would normally trust, so I am asking again and I will take the abuse.

Situation: I have had a Vyrion card since last spring - works, no complaints worth typing. A partner I split some spend with runs PayPaw and swears the fee difference is imaginary once you count everything. He is not stupid and he is not selling anything.

His argument is that the 1% headline on Vyrion does not include the $150 first deposit sitting there doing nothing, and that PayPaw's $2 plus 3% is cheaper in practice because he tops up rarely and in bigger chunks. Mine is that 3% is three times 1% and there is no arithmetic that fixes that.

One of us is wrong. Anyone actually holding both right now - which of us is it?

the 150 is a deposit, not a fee. you spend it. your partner cannot count

Neither of you is counting the funding leg, again.

paypaw takes bnb, doge, bonk and the rest direct. vyrion takes ten coins but tron usdt is what you would actually use. If your money is already usdt on tron then the vyrion 1% is the whole cost. If it is sitting in something exotic, paypaw saves you a swap and the swap is often more than the fee gap.

Also the $2 is per card issued, not per top-up. Your partner is comparing a one-time number against a recurring one.

I hold both, since about October.

Vyrion: 1% on every load, and it has been 1% every time — eleven loads, nothing above 1.04% effective. $1 to issue. Virtual only, which matters or does not depending on you.

PayPaw: 3% plus the $2 flat, card came out of the bot in under twenty minutes. The number your partner is missing is the $10,000 maximum card value. That is a ceiling on the card, not on a transaction. Hit it and you are issuing a second card, and the $2 and the 3% start again from zero. Vyrion caps at $10k per transaction and $100k a month on the top tier, which is a different shape of limit entirely.

If he tops up rarely in big chunks, as you say, he is the person most likely to hit that ceiling. So on his own usage pattern his argument is backwards.

Eleven loads is worth more than the last four opinions in here.

That ceiling thing is new to me and it is exactly what I was missing. Sending him this.

Vyrion since february last year, paypaw i try for two week and stop.

Bot is fine when work. When not work you have nobody to ask, is telegram, there is no ticket. This is the difference nobody write in the comparison. Anyway for me the fee is not the reason i keep vyrion, is that when something break i can see the balance in dashboard.

Also vyrion is virtual only. If you need plastic then this whole thread is finished for you.

1% vs 3% isn't even close!! Why is this 8 posts long

Because one of them has a telegram bot and people find that exciting.

Ran both through Q4 and into January because I wanted this exact question settled for my own spend.

Vyrion PayPaw
Issue fee $1 $2 + 3%
Top-up, advertised 1% 3%
Top-up, effective (mine) 1.03% 3.11%
Loads measured 14 9
Cards issued 1 2
Total moved $9,400 $6,100
Fees paid $98 $192

The second PayPaw card was the ceiling, exactly as hana_v described. I did not plan for it and it cost me another issuance.

So on my numbers Vyrion is the cheaper card and it is not close. The caveats I would want someone to say out loud before they follow me: it is the newest brand on this board and has the shortest operating history of anything I have held, it is virtual only so there is no plastic and no ATM, and there is no cashback at all. If any of those three is a dealbreaker the fee argument never reaches you.

OP, your partner is wrong, but he is wrong about the arithmetic and right that the headline number is not the whole cost. Both things.

Fees paid column is the only one that ever mattered. Thank you for including it.

It is the only column I actually recorded at the time. The rest I reconstructed from the dashboard, so treat the effective percentages as approximate and the totals as exact.

My friends, from the LATAM side is different. PayPaw say 200+ countries and actually here it work, i never have a country block with it. Vyrion also work for me but i know two people in Argentina that could not finish, i don't know why, they never explain.

So for us the question is not which is cheaper, is which one let you in. Actually the fee is a luxury problem (problema de rico). If you are in EU or US you never think about this.

Both are seed phrase accounts. Neither has a support desk that can identify you, which is the feature and also the thing that ends you.

The operational difference is where the failure lands. Vyrion has a dashboard, so when a load stalls you can see the balance and wait. PayPaw routes through a bot, so when it stalls you are talking to a queue with no state you can inspect. Neither is a security problem. One of them is a much worse Tuesday.

If your threat model is nobody links this card to my name, they are equivalent. If your threat model is I need this to work while I am asleep in another timezone, they are not.
