Card dead, withdrawals dead, ticket says 'under review' and nothing else — anyone else since March?

Posting this partly to find out if it is just me. Card went dead Saturday, and because it is an exchange card the balance is not on the card, it is on the exchange, so 'the card stopped working' and 'my funds are held' turned out to be the same sentence.

What happened: spend has been normal, 2-3k a month, mostly online, nothing exotic. Saturday every auth declined. Sunday the withdrawal tab started returning a generic error. Ticket opened Sunday, first human reply Monday, and it said the account is under review with nothing else in it.

This is the thing I always tell other people not to do — leaving a working balance on an exchange because the card makes it convenient — and I did it anyway because the card made it convenient. So save the lecture, I am writing it myself.

Anyone else since March? I want to know if this is an account thing or a batch.

card is a feature of the exchange account. review the account, kill the card. nothing to debug

What changed in the week before Saturday? Something did.

Nothing I can point at. Same merchants, same amounts, no new device, no new address.

Not just you. Two people in my group had the same thing land in the first half of March, both Europe, both with the card as the only unusual thing on the account.

What matters for how long this takes is which review it is. If it is an exchange-level AML review, the card is collateral damage and you are waiting on the exchange's queue, which is slow but ends. If it is the card programme itself — the issuer behind the Mastercard, not the exchange — the card can stay dead while the exchange balance unfreezes, and people misread that as still being frozen.

So watch which comes back first. If withdrawals work and the card does not, that is two different problems and you will need a second ticket.

Is not batch, is you. I say this not to be rude.

Exchange card review come when the pattern change on the exchange side, not the card side. Maybe you deposit from new address, maybe somebody send you coin that touch something. You not see this in your spend, you see it in the deposit history. Anyway look at what come IN in last thirty day, not what you spend.

Collecting what has actually been reported rather than argued about. Six cases in this thread and two by message, all since 1 March.

Reported Region Card dead Withdrawals dead Resolved
03-06 EU yes yes day 12
03-11 EU yes yes day 9
03-14 APAC yes no no
03-19 EU yes yes no
03-20 APAC yes no no
03-22 EU yes yes no

Two things stand out. Every single case has the card dead, and about a third have withdrawals still working, which supports the split hana_v described. And nothing before 1 March, though that may just be that nobody was counting.

If you are in this thread with a case, post the date and whether withdrawals work. That is two facts and it is more useful than another theory.

Eight cases is not a pattern across a user base that size. Keep counting though.

Actually i want to say the same thing happen to a friend in Brazil in february, so is before march. He never get the card back, only the balance, and it take five week. He open new account with different email and they close it also, so be careful with this idea.

My friend, the hard part is you cannot talk to anybody. Is all ticket.

The mistake is upstream of the review. An exchange card is a permission the exchange grants you over your own deposit, and permissions get revoked; that is what they are for. You did not have a card with a balance on it. You had an exchange account with a spending shortcut attached.

Two practical things. First, a card whose funds live on the platform issuing it can never be the card you depend on, regardless of which platform. Second, the review is reading your deposits, not your spend, and the thing that triggered it may have been a counterparty's problem rather than yours — you cannot audit that after the fact and you should stop trying.

What is your actual exposure sitting there?

About 4.1k, which is annoying rather than fatal. And yes, all of that is correct and I would have written the same post at somebody else two months ago.

Checked the deposit history properly. Nothing new in thirty days, but there is one inbound from a swap service in early February that I would not describe as clean if I were the one reviewing it. That is the best candidate I have.
